Privacy policy

1. Photos and notes on your device

Encounters, original photos and notes are saved in the app's private storage. Saving an encounter does not automatically upload it or create a cloud backup. You can edit, delete or export an encounter from Cabinet. Device backups and transfers depend on your operating system and its settings.

Camera access is requested when you take a photo. You can choose an existing photo instead. Insecta does not request your precise location for identification. Original photos and exported files may contain camera metadata, including location embedded by your camera.

2. Optional photo identification

When live identification is available, it asks for your confirmation before sending a resized copy of the selected photo through the Insecta service to Alibaba Cloud's Qwen model. You can save an encounter without using identification. Your original photo and personal notes are not sent as part of this request.

The service decodes and re-encodes the uploaded image to remove embedded metadata before forwarding it to Qwen. It processes the image in memory and does not intentionally store the uploaded image in its database, media library or backups. Visible information inside a photograph is still part of the image: do not submit sensitive personal information.

The current model endpoint is in Singapore. Identification data may be processed outside your country. Alibaba Cloud's account-specific retention, processing locations and use-of-data terms have not yet been fully verified. Production identification remains gated until that review and the final privacy notice are complete. See Alibaba Cloud's privacy policy.

3. Service records and retention

Online features use a randomly generated app-session identifier. The service processes IP addresses for abuse prevention. Identification requests retain a photo hash, request and session identifiers, consent version, model version, request status, candidate results and quota or budget records. A hash is a fingerprint of the submitted file, not the photo itself.

Access tokens expire after one hour; refresh credentials expire after 30 days unless renewed. These authentication expiry periods are not database-deletion promises. Automatic deletion periods for session, identification and purchase records have not yet been finalized. We will publish the retention periods and a working deletion process before public release.

Local records remain until you delete them or app data is removed. Uninstalling may remove local records; separate exports and operating-system backups follow the controls of the service or location you choose.

4. Purchases, measurement and advertising

Live purchases are currently disabled. If enabled in a future release, Apple or Google and RevenueCat will process purchases and restoration, and Insecta will retain access-entitlement records associated with an app session. Payment-card details are handled by the store, not entered into Insecta.

Optional usage measurement is currently disabled by default. If enabled in a reviewed release, it sends limited usage events such as story completion, download volume, cache reuse and playback errors. The service aggregates these into daily totals; it does not include your photos, notes, search text or precise location in those totals. Aggregates older than 90 days are removed when new usage is processed.

The current app contains no advertising SDK or advertising-ID tracking. No advertising sellers are currently authorized in our app-ads.txt file. Any future advertising integration will require updated disclosures before activation.

5. This website and service providers

This website uses Cloudflare for delivery and security. Cloudflare and the hosting infrastructure process connection information such as IP addresses, request metadata and security events to deliver and protect the site. Cloudflare may use security-related cookies. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

These pages include no newsletter form, advertising scripts, analytics scripts or first-party tracking cookies. If you email us, your email provider and our Gmail service process the message and contact details. Do not send original photos or other sensitive data unless needed to resolve your request.

6. Your choices and privacy requests

You can manage camera and photo permissions in device settings, decline identification, delete encounters in Cabinet, and export records to a destination you control. Clearing downloaded story media does not delete your encounters. Deleting a local record does not automatically delete separately exported files or service records.

Insecta is being prepared for a general audience of curious adults. A child-directed release is not currently offered. If you believe a child's personal information was shared with us, contact the same address.
