Look first.
Find a question.
You do not need to know an insect's name to notice something interesting. Next time you spot one, watch from a distance and try these three prompts.
A simple field exercise to try yourself.
01 Notice one shape.
Look at the outline. Which detail catches your eye: an antenna, a wing edge or a leg? Describe what you can actually see, without guessing what it does.
02 Watch what changes.
Stay still for a moment. Does it move, turn or remain in place? Notice one change and one thing that stays the same. Give it space to carry on.
03 Keep one question.
Take a photo if you can do so without disturbing it. Add a note such as “What was it doing on this leaf?” That question is a starting point for your next discovery.

Our stories include AI-generated artwork and animation, not wildlife recordings. Your own encounter photos belong to a separate, personal collection.

What is Insecta?
Insecta is an insect discovery app in development for iOS and Android. It combines illustrated insect stories with a personal Cabinet for photos and notes from your own nature encounters.
Can I download Insecta yet?
Public downloads are not available yet. App Store and Google Play links will appear here when the app launches. You can email us with questions about the launch.
Are the illustrations and animations real wildlife footage?
Insecta stories include AI-generated illustrations and animation. They are not wildlife recordings. Your own encounter photos are kept separate from illustrated stories.
Where will my photos and notes be saved?
The current app saves your encounters on your device. Saving an encounter does not automatically upload it or create a cloud backup. You can export the records you want to keep. Optional online identification is a separate, consent-based feature being prepared.
Will Insecta have a subscription?
A subscription is planned. Final prices, included content and availability will be announced before purchases open.
