How can you recognize silverfish?
Look for a flattened, scaly body, very long antennae and three slender appendages at the rear. They can move quickly when uncovered.
What do silverfish eat?
They feed on various carbohydrate and protein sources. Starchy materials, dry foods and some paper products can provide food indoors.
Silverfish or firebrat?
They look similar, but silverfish favor cooler damp spaces, while firebrats favor warmer conditions. Location is a clue, not proof.
Try one observation
Record the room and surface where you saw the insect. A brief photo of the tail appendages may be more helpful than guessing from movement alone.
